Empowered Minds Heritage Project

Empowered Minds Heritage Project

Working across our multi academy trust we are looking to do a project researching the history of the St Leger Stakes. Our aim is:

To create a documentary with our film club children relating to the history of the St Leger Stakes/Festival.

This will combine archive (depending on copyright) and new footage to show how things have changed.

Through the use of old footage we hope to create a vision of how it would have been to visit the festival throughout its history.

As well as the historical aspect we hope to engage the children in film making, helping them to learn about the processes that go in to making a film: camera angles, shots, storyboarding and location etc..

We will also reflect on the effect it has had on the town: putting Doncaster on the map, tourism, royal visits, quirky tales etc.

We are currently in the process of researching the history and are searching for any photos, footage (old and modern), memorabilia, stories relating to the festival and general local knowledge. If anyone can help with this please contact me at dsmeaton@bessacarr.doncaster.sch.uk

We also would appreciate any support on gaining copyrights. We will be working with Into Film on this project and are hoping to collaborate with Yorkshire Film Archive.

The project will be led by Mr  Smeaton and Mr Wood.
